Equine Metronidazole Paste is an oral antibacterial and antiprotozoal paste for horses and foals.
- Contains metronidazole 500 mg/g.
- For infections caused by metronidazole-sensitive anaerobic bacteria (e.g. Clostridium, Bacteroides, Fusobacterium) and protozoa (e.g. Giardia, Trichomonas).
- Used where anaerobes are involved, such as pleuropneumonia, sinusitis, tooth root infections, enteritis and some cases of metritis.
- Not for use in horses intended for human consumption.
Directions for use: Horses: 20 mL of paste (10 g metronidazole) per 500 kg bodyweight (20 mg/kg) orally, or per rectum if required, every 12 hours for 5 days, or as directed by a veterinarian. Foals: 10 mg/kg every 12 hours.
Prescription medicine: for use under veterinary supervision; supply in the UAE may require a veterinary prescription.
